Case Studies - Platte River
- The Tamarack Wildlife Refuge is the site of an augmentation project that provides wetland and water quality benefits, as well as sustaining flows in the Platte River as it flows into Nebraska.
- Wells adjacent to the Platte River pump groundwater during the spring to strategically placed recharge basins. Infiltration from these basins returns to the Platte River during the summer low flow period.
The project currently consists of 17 recharge wells, (located between 300 and 800 feet from the river), and 11 recharge basins (located 0.25 to 1.0 mile from the river).
The wells deliver between 3 and 10 cfs (1,300 – 4,500 gpm) to each recharge basin. Cumulative augmentation volumes are about 10,000 Acre Feet per season
